They embark both as autonomous devices and as integral parts of networks bringing together all the electronic instruments on board. Their universe goes beyond simple cartography to include weather, routing, tides or astronomy, as well as the recovery of man overboard, and even the construction of marine knots. Apple's iOS, the "engine" of the iPad and the iPhone, has the most consistent software offer to date. It is therefore in this particular sector of digital tablets that Francis Fustier, trainer in marine computing and author of the French translations of several navigation software for Mac and iOS, is interested here.
